12 Top Rated Bollywood Movies On War According To IMDb
[ad_1]
If patriotic, action and scenes which keep giving your adrenaline a boost keeps you hyped these films might be the one for you. Sure Bollywood doesn’t come up with absolute masterpieces always, but when it does, it comes with a bang. Sometimes either it is filled with too many gruesome scenes or too much patriotism that it seems almost pretentious. Unlike these movies, which has a perfect mixture of everything.
These are some of the top war based Indian films that have been rated on IMDB:
1. Shershaah – 8.8
The writers got very little creative with the script and they stuck to the facts which proved to be a very good move. The story did not have the Bollywood unnecessary masala but the reality of the hero whom we all know today, the character build-up was beautifully done. Most parts of the script were in Punjabi dialect and the part of young Vikram Batra was in Pahari dialect to represent their linguistic background which has been missing from Bollywood for a really long time. The dialogues were written in a manner where a viewer would flow into it as a spectator watching two real-life people converse.
A war movie without unnecessary gruesome scenes of patriotism puked over it. It was genuine and even the scenes with violence would fill you with rage over the injustice done. By the end of the movie, you will connect and feel sympathetic towards the young captain. The song which was being played in the backdrop was already a hit but while I watched it the lyrics felt extremely appropriate for the scene.
That war glorification by decorated journalists is vague but the young men and women laying their lives for our country, that is the true sense of patriotism. Captain Vikram Batra was a hero even before he joined the army but his purpose in life saved many lives. His is a story that is a must-watch.
Watch Shershaah on Amazon Prime Video.
2. Uri: The Surgical Strike – 8.2
Based on the Surgical strike carried out by the Indian army in 2016, the movie is indeed a pleasure to watch. It is well-paced and keeps you engrossed throughout. Although the story is predictable (since we all have read about the utterly successful mission) the movie still keeps you glued. There are moments that will give goosebumps, make you laugh, will moist your eyes but surely make you feel immensely proud of our national heroes and their capabilities.
In terms of star cast, this has been yet another stellar performance by Vicky Kaushal who seems to be growing from strength to strength. He is brilliant as Major Vihan Singh Shergil and is convincing as both, a ruthless military officer on the battlefield and a gentleman (caring son, a loving brother) off the field. He has been well supported by Paresh Rawal (as Govind-based on Ajit Doval), Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina, and Kirti Kulhari.

3. 1971 – 8.1
The film was released back in 2007 and it is solely based on the story of six soldiers. The soldiers were taken down by the enemy campaign during the war of 1971. The movies is a tue story about the escape of six soldiers of the Indian Army taken as prisoners of war by the Pakistan Army during war of 1971. It is directed by Amrit Sagar and stars Manoj Bajpai, Ravi Kishan, Piyush Mishra, and Deepak Dobriyal.

4. Lakshya – 7.9
As soon as the news spread out that it’s gonna be directed by Farhan Akhtar which has Hrithik and Preity Zinta as its main leads, people had high expectations. Needless to say, they did live up to their expectations and did not let their fans down. The plot is about a boy and his journey from being just a little teenager to a capable army officer with loads of work related to him saving the people of his nation on his shoulders.
Watch Lakshya on Amazon Prime Video.
5. Border – 7.9
Directed by J. P. Dutta with starring leads like Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, and many more. The story revolves around the Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pak war 1971.
Watch Border on Zee5.
6. Madras Cafe – 7.7
A beautifully and brilliantly executed movie! It might simply be John Abraham best work. Excellent direction by Shoojit Sirkar. The screenplay, acting, direction, music, and plot were all amazing. So not the typical Bollywood masala movie. The storyline is captivating too and is based on real events leading to the assassination of our ex-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Watch Madras Cafe on Netflix.
7. The Ghazi Attack – 7.6
This movie is beyond expectations, it brings Indian patriotism similar to movies such as Uri: The Surgical Strike.
This director and the actors have done it in an amazing way. They didn’t even miss the minute details of a submarine cabin. This movie was shot on a set that was a working model because Rana’s height was more than 6 feet and the submarine’s cabin will be less than 6 feet.
Watch The Ghazi Attack on Amazon Prime Video.
8. Dhoop – 7.2
The film is kinda based on the life of a Kargil War hero, Anuj Nayyar. It doesn’t only portray his bravery or what he does for the nation, but also how politics ends up being a dirty part of society. The film is directed by Ashwin Chaudhary and is mostly based on the battle of Tiger hill.

9. Tango Charlie – 6.0
Many times we appreciate our jawans by naming them army personnel. But BSF or CRPF they fight for us everywhere all over India in very different situations from controlling riots, fighting Naxals to securing international borders.
This movie depicts that same life in a real way and honoring these paramilitary jawans. But it is also true that paramilitary forces lack infra and fighting equipment. Just check the Pulwama attack, jawans were not sitting, the bulletproof buses caused so many casualties, and definitely, there were other reasons also but a big salute to all these brave soldiers.
Watch Tango Charlie on MX Player.
10. LOC: Kargil – 5.4
The movie takes its viewers across the great life of the Indian army officers and their love for our mother nation India. It’s also very informative as we come to know many things about the Kargil war of 1999. The movie also takes us across the lives of all the Indian army officers who sacrificed their lives, families, love, and everything. It is also directed by J. P. Dutta.
Watch LOC: Kargil on MX Player.
11. Paltan – 5.3
Based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes along the Sikkim border Paltan is also directed by J. P. Dutta. The movie stars Sonu Sood, Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Harshvardhan Rane, Esha Gupta and Sonal Chauhan.
Watch Paltan on Zee5.
12. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl – 5.3
A story knit around the life of Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian Air Force woman officer to enter into war zone, who since her days of childhood had a longing to become a pilot and remained smitten.
Two wars unfurl in the movie- one between India and Pakistan and the second of gender bias. The movie so impactfully shows her struggle to convince her family to follow her dream of becoming a pilot when the same was seen as something only men could do at the time (the 1990s), the conundrums she faces in her workplace like the dominant patriarchal society, stereotypes and how she is repeatedly deprived of chances to move forward as a plethora of people think that if a woman leads, it is a question on a man’s manliness.
Watch Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl on Netflix.
Bollywood doesn’t let its audience down, sometimes.
