There are no indicators that the Asia Cup controversy will ever be resolved. The outcome of the continent’s tournament remains in doubt despite an Asian Cricket Council meeting.
According to the secretary of the Indian Board, Jay Shah, the Asia Cup 2023 will not be held in Pakistan and will instead take place at a neutral site. Reports indicated that the Asian Board would choose a neutral location for the Asia Cup during a meeting of the ACC held in Bahrain; however, the decision was deferred.
A source has now spoken out about the matter, according to the news agency ANI. According to a source quoted by ANI, the PCB is not happy with the notion that the Asia Cup might be moved to any neutral destination. The name of the UAE is at the top of the list, which might win the hosting, but if it occurs then Pakistan would not come to India for the ICC World Cup 2023.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unwilling to permit its players to visit Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is adamant about holding the event in their own nation.
As the dispute continues, Javed Miandad, a legend of Pakistan cricket, has made shocking remarks against India and called for the International Cricket Council (ICC) to remove the squad.
In a video that went viral on YouTube, Javed Miandad said,
“Main to pehle bhi kehta tha, nahi aate to bhaad mein jaayein, hamein koi fark nahi padta, hamein hamari cricket mil rahi hai. Ye ICC ka kaam hai, ye cheez agar ICC control nahi kar skti, to fir governing body ka koi kaam nahi hai.”
He added,
“ICC should have one rule for every country. If such teams don’t come, no matter how strong they are, you should remove them.”
When a reporter questioned Miandad about India’s refusal to play in Pakistan because of their concern about returning home if they lost, he agreed.
“Hamare time pe bhi, wo isliye nahi khelte they kyunki harte hain to musibat ho jati hai. Wahan ka crowd ‘nasty hai’. Jab bhi India haarti hai, chaahe kisi se haare, wahan ke jo log hain, wo gharon ko aag laga dete hain. Hamein yaad hai, jab ham khelte they to unke sath museebatein hui hain.”
In conclusion, Miandad believes the ICC should punish teams like India severely for declining to participate in tournaments.
Main ICC ko kehta hun ki wo strict action lein. Ek rule and regulation ICC ke paas hona chahiye. Agar koi bhi country is tarah behave karti hai, uske upar action lena chahiye. Aisi teamon ko bahar karo, khud ba khud line pe aa jayenge.
His comment went viral on various social media platforms, with many people strongly reacting to it. While many renowned cricketers prefer to stay silent on his comments, the deceptively polite Venkatesh Prasad, who saved his best one-liners for Pakistan. During his playing days, then comprehensively outplayed Miandad.
Following the virality of Venkatesh Prasad’s remark, Miandad was mercilessly trolled on Twitter by users. While many people pointed out that he is Daud Ibrahim’s relative, others made a point about cricketers’ safety.
The most recent bombing in Pakistan has brought up issues regarding the security of participants and spectators in the nation once more. Cricket is a sport that unites individuals from all cultures; hence, it necessitates a safe setting for all parties. In light of this, Pakistan is clearly unqualified to host the Asia Cup in 2023, as evidenced by recent events in that nation.
Following the discussion on Friday, reports indicated that the location might be selected at the ACC members’ second Executive Board meeting in March. Notably, the UAE is quickly becoming a prominent contender to host the Asian competition. The Asia Cup 2022 was previously held in the country. In the midst of the political difficulties, Qatar has also shown interest in hosting the event.
