The long-awaited sequel to the popular Bollywood movie ‘3 Idiots’ has recently become the talk of the town after rumors spread on social media that it is in making and will again feature the iconic trio of Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi. These rumors had led even Kareena Kapoor to express amazement that she had been kept in the dark regarding a prospective 3 Idiots sequel.
However, now the recent development confirmed that they are actually rumors, and the sequel to 3 Idiots is not coming anytime soon. Instead, the 3 Idiots trio was seen promoting a new cricket betting app called Dream 11, which will pit actors against cricketers.
In a promotional video, the actors can be seen holding a press conference where they make fun of cricketers who try their hand at acting by appearing in TV commercials. They then announce their plan to enter the cricketing world. However, the video also includes reactions from cricketers who mock the actors for their cricketing ambitions.
In the ad, Aamir said,
Toh humne socha ye log acting mein busy hain to cricket hum kar lete hain.
Mocking this, Ravichandran Ashwin said,
bolne ke liye paisa nahi lagta hai bhai (talking is free).
The video depicts several cricketers making fun of and laughing at Aamir Khan for his suggestion to play cricket. But the most hilarious discussion happened between Aamir Khan and Rohit Sharma.
The advertisement by Tilt Brand Solutions highlights the 3 Idiots actors’ enduring relationship as well as the cricketers Rohit Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rahul Chahar’s unexpectedly adept comic timing.
The video shows a bunch of cricket players laughing and making fun of three actors’ portrayal of playing cricket. While discussing Aamir’s cricket prowess, one of the players, Rohit Sharma, said that playing cricket in a movie like Lagaan does not automatically make one a cricketer.
Lagaan mein cricket khelke koi cricketer nahi ban jata.
Instead, Madhavan made fun of him by pointing out that Aamir is the one who has produced “real hits” in his career. But again, Rohit makes fun of Aamir, adding,
2 sal mein ek hit deke koi Hitman nahi ban jata.
Furthermore, when actors flaunt Aamir’s 300 crore flicks, Jasprit Bumrah challenges the actors to play 150 on the field.
After this, while describing how challenging it may be for the performers on the field, Hardik Pandya added,
Ek bouncer aayega, zameen pe aajaoge
The main takeaway from the advertisement is that everyone can play cricket on Dream11, supporting the #SabKhelenge tenet. The advertisement has hit the mark, garnering praise on the internet for its liberal sprinkle of nostalgia. On YouTube, the advertisement has received over 18M views.
To spark more curiosity, the supporting cast of the movie, which includes Kareena Kapoor, Omi Vaidya, Javed Jaaferi, Boman Irani, and Mona Singh, also made a post on social media asking the three stars whether they were planning to leave them out of the sequel to the popular movie.
