Every state in India has a police agency that works hard every day to improve its social media presence. The official Police Twitter handles don’t only tweet out safety warnings, traffic updates, and announcements; they also listen to complaints, deal with grievances, and even collect tips from online users about crimes and other problems.
While many state police departments stay up with the newest social media trends and publish jokes and memes to raise more awareness of safety and security, more and more police departments are embracing the trend to keep up with the latest social media trends of having a presence on these platforms.
For their unusual tweets and humorous responses to odd and outlandish requests, most of these agencies have gone viral several times.
By using the Punjab police’s recent surge in Twitter interaction as an example, we may conclude that they are not far behind in terms of quirkiness. With a funny response to a user who claimed that he was beaten up by a guy for sending an “I like you” message to his wife, Punjab police have again entered the social media quirkiness race.
The Twitter user expressed concern for his safety and asked Punjab Police for assistance. One Twitter user named Sushant Dutt tweeted, which has since been deleted:
“Sir I send “I Like u” message to someone, her husband came and beaten me badly yesterday night, even I apologize again and again. But now I m worried about by Safety, plz do the needful, plz help and Safe my life, Today they might be attack again: #PS D-Division “Amritsar.
Giving the best example of humourous but within the borders of law, Punjab replied to the user, saying,
“Not sure what you were expecting on your unwarranted message to a woman, but they should not have beaten you up. They should have reported you to us and we would have served you right under right sections of law. Both these offences will be duly taken care of as per law!”

The post has received the large number of likes and comments. Internet users expressed their thoughts regarding the occurrence in the comments area. While some praised the department’s response, others said that the woman’s husband’s response was inappropriate.

How is messaging ‘ I like u’ to a married person is offence? It shouldn’t be. Bothering that person even after getting a reply from her is certainly a offence though.

This has to be investigated and if the woman isn’t interested in this conversation and he is voluntarily initiating this conversation then this will become an offence. If the woman is also involved in this like you affair then I dont think the man here has done anything wrong.
