Train traveling is a popular and convenient mode of transportation that has been around for centuries. It is a great way to explore new destinations, experience scenic routes, and meet new people.
Traveling on a train can be a pleasant and convenient experience. However, encountering weird passengers can make the journey strange and uncomfortable. Weird passengers can come in various forms, from someone who talks loudly to themselves to someone who exhibits erratic behavior.
While these things are common and can be ignored easily, a few instances shouldn’t be ignored at any cost. However, the recent instance is quite weird!
A passenger shared a video of a lady consuming marijuana and cigarettes inside the train on the microblogging site.
During the Tatanagar-Katihar route, a passenger voiced their unhappiness and tweeted that the woman had spent the entire night using “marijuana and smokes” before boarding the train at Asansol.
Soon, the video went viral on various social media platforms, with many reacting to it. While many justified the act by saying that it is common and not illegal, others put blame on gender-biased laws that exist in the country.
Later, the official Twitter account for Indian Railways also responded to the video. They wrote,
Sir, we request you to please share the journey details (PNR/Train No.) and Mobile No. with us preferably via DM. You may also raise your concern directly on http://railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or dial 139 for speedy redressal. – RPF India

Unquestionably, this would be a very weird experience for anyone. Nonetheless, railroads also consider it a crime.
If passengers are observed smoking in trains, the Indian Railways may take severe action against them, including detaining them. According to Section 167 of the Railways Act, anybody detected smoking in a compartment against a co-request passenger’s or restriction or without their consent is subject to a fine.
Encountering weird passengers on a train can be a strange and uncomfortable experience. However, by staying calm, keeping your distance, and alerting the authorities if necessary, you can ensure your safety and avoid any unpleasant situations.
Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, so do not hesitate to seek help if you feel uneasy or threatened.
