Lottery tickets are a popular form of gambling, and many people enjoy playing the lottery online. However, there are some questions about the legality of online lotteries in India. Can I play the lottery online? Is it legal to buy lottery tickets online?
The short answer to both of these questions is yes; you can play the lottery online in India. There are no specific laws against buying or playing lottery tickets online. However, there are some general gambling laws that you should be aware of.
In this blog post, we will discuss the gambling laws for online lotteries in India and answer the question: where is online lottery legal in India?
Gambling Laws for the Online Lottery in India
As it stands, the power to make gambling laws in India resides with both the Central and state governments. Listed below are some of the more notable central gambling laws in India:
The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998
Lottery can be defined as “a random drawing of numbers for prizes, typically one where people buy chances.” The Lotteries (Regulation) Act of 1998 gave states the power to sanction lottery systems, from authorizing them to conducting and managing them within their state borders. The key features of this Act are as follows:
- A lottery is a gambling scheme in which people win prizes based on chance.
- The state government should hold lottery events, and all revenue should be deposited into the public account of the state.
- The design or print on the lottery tickets should accurately reflect the legitimacy of the tickets.
- There should be no more than six bumper draws in a year.
- If an agent, promoter, or trader breaks any of the rules in this Act, they will be charged with a cognizable and non-bailable offense. If found guilty, they will face up to 2 years in jail and/or a fine.
- One state’s government may enforce a ban on the sale of tickets for lotteries held in any other state.
Indian States Where Online Lottery is Legal
The Public Gambling Act of 1867 excluded any mention of online lotteries, making them legal in India. Although some states have since made purchasing lottery tickets online through a state-run service permissible, most Indian state laws do not reference such purchases by name. Instead, most stipulate that only authorized vendors for businesses with Indian headquarters may sell lottery tickets within the state boundaries.
Now that we have looked at some of the gambling laws for the online lottery in India, let’s take a look at where online lottery is legal.
States that have legalized online lottery
Kerala was one of the first Indian states to legalize lottery, and the Kerala Paper Lotteries (Regulation) Rules, 2005, regulates its conduct. This rulebook contains instructions and information about all lottery events.
In India, Goa is one of the 13 states that operate its own lottery. The Goa Rajshree lottery has been legal since 1995. However, because domestic operators are only regulated by state law in India, you’re free to play international online lotteries like Powerball.
The Maharashtra lottery is a government-run event held daily in India, in which many people participate in. The rules and regulations for the lottery are set by the federal government.
The Madhya Pradesh Professional Tax Act 1994 governs the state lottery in the region. The Act contains provisions about tax rates and penalties for non-compliance.
In 2009, the Sikkim government authorized a license to the only operator of an online lottery in India, Playwin Lotto. The Sikkim Online Gaming (Regulation) Act, 2008, regulates all forms of online gaming in the state, including online lotteries.
Currently, the Punjab government does not offer an online lottery service. However, you’re free to play international online lotteries like Powerball from the comfort of your own home.
The West Bengal state lottery offers a number of different draws throughout the year, including for Diwali, Holi, New Year, Puja, Rathayatra, and Nabarasha Bumper.
In Assam, gambling is regulated by The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998, and The Assam Game and Betting Act, 1970. These acts don’t go into much detail about online gambling specifically, making it widely available to residents.
Arunachal Pradesh is an Indian state where playing the lottery–both offline and online–is regulated and legal. The rules concerning this are enumerated in the Arunachal Pradesh Lotteries (Regulation) Rules, 2013. Even though it’s possible to try your hands at the state-governed lottery, you can enjoy bigger draws with more money to be won if you go through foreign websites instead. Powerball, EuroMillions, and the EuroJackpot offer jackpots that amount to several crore rupees!
Since its beginning, lotteries have always been popular in Meghalaya. In 2017, Meghalaya’s Chief Minister announced that the Meghalaya Excise Department would start the bidding process for appointing a distributor to market state-government lotteries.
The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998 applies to state-run government lottery in Manipur just as it does for Maharashtra. However, the act only outlines laws related to selling lottery tickets within the state and not for players who buy tickets online from international lotteries.
The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998 regulates Nagaland’s lotteries, while the rest of is regulated and governed by the Nagaland Prohibition of Gambling and Promotion and Regulation of Online Games of Skill Act, 2016. Interestingly enough, Nagaland is one of the few states in India that offers a government lottery.
Mizoram was once part of Assam, but once it became its own state, The Public Gambling (Extension to Mizo District) Act, 1962 went into effect in order to confirm that they would also follow the gambling act of India. They have followed this act ever since and also decided to comply with The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998 by creating their own state-run lottery.
Each state in India has its own take on what is and isn’t legal when it comes to gambling. However, because online lottery falls into a bit of a gray area, many people choose to play international lotteries instead, where they can be sure that the game is fair and above-board. While playing the lottery is legal in most states, it’s still important to be aware of the laws in your specific state before you play.
15 Hilarious And Relatable Tweets For Regular Uber Or Ola Users
If you happen to book cabs for your daily commute or to reach a particular destination within a stipulated time, then you will surely relate to this article. Applications such as Ola and Uber have been in use throughout India, especially in the metros. People often opt for cabs instead of commuting by a means of public transport when they are in a hurry or want to have a hassle-free journey. But do apps such as Uber and Ola really provide you with that privilege?
The cab services in India started operating long back but the efficiency of their service is still not up to the mark. There is room for a lot of improvement in terms of their punctuality and fare fluctuations. Though the Ola and Uber drivers have access to GPS, most of them fail to use it or are not educated enough about the utility of the route maps as they are often confused about the pick-up and drop-off locations.
In the 21st century, traveling hasn’t been easy as whenever we decide to book a cab from these apps we are often utterly disappointed by their services. Half of the time goes by in explaining our location to the Ola and Uber drivers.
It also happens that they cancel on us after confirming a pickup and let’s not talk about the price hikes. If you guys have suffered under the hands of Uber and Ola drivers, you will find these hilarious tweets related to Uber and Ola very entertaining and relatable. Such posts on social media is a proof that we are not the only ones who go through harassment and struggles when it comes to availing the Indian cab services.
On Twitter, the users shared honest and hilarious memes about the condition of cabs in India. So, get ready to have a good laugh!

Why Do Card Games Make Up The Majority Of Casino Games?
Have you ever wondered why casinos mostly have card games? Even when you are playing online, you are always going to come across card games such as poker and Blackjack. They are often the first presented to you and offer you the ability to win big. Is there a reason for this? The answer is yes, and this all goes back to the creation and considering player enjoyment. So, let’s take a closer look at why card games make up the majority of casino games in person and online.
The history of card games
When it comes to card games, people tend to disagree on the first people to create them. Some people say it was in ancient China, while others believe it was the Europeans. But, what we can say with some certainty is that card games have existed for a long time and in many fascinating forms.
Why is this the case? Well, many people recognize that they are games that involve some skill and learning. But, there is also a big element of luck. You do not control what cards you are dealt. So, this creates excitement and a fun factor in the game. Indeed, casinos adopted card games because they had the ability to win over the players and make money. But, players also had the opportunity to do the same, which means people want to play.
There is no doubt that casino games have changed in recent years. This has been because of how technology has developed and plays a huge role in our lives. In particular, there are a lot more online casinos now, such as betFIRST. Here, you can play digitized versions of your favorite card games. So, even though technology is taking over, it shows that card games are still existing in a different form.
Why people like card games
Let’s not forget one of the main reasons why card games are so popular. Simply, they are fun to play. You have the ability to win money and enjoy playing your favorite games in the process. Card games are generally easy to learn, and all different ages can come together and enjoy the same game. This is something that means no matter what year it is or even the technology available; card games will continue to be popular.
Something that is amazing about card games is that they can bring together people from all over the world. It is not like a language where you do not understand what someone is saying. Instead, most people know the same rules, which allows you to play together even if you are not from the same country. Indeed, this often happens on live casino websites and when you play online. But, even if you were to play card games in person with others, this is something you would be able to do. Card games are something that is universal and fun for everyone.
Kartik Aaryan Gives Perfect Reply To Trolls Who Called Him A “Replacement Star”
Since he entered the industry, Kartik Aryan has maintained his image of being a “Shahzada of Bollywood” for his evergreen charm and millennial attitude. He has carved out his own niche in the entertainment world despite being born into the middle class and turning into everyone’s fantasy.
Even though he is an outsider, he has built a space for himself, and as a result, he has captured everyone’s attention with exceptional performance in various super hit movies such as Akaash Vani (2013), Kaanchi: The Unbreakable (2014), Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015), Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), especially in the recent one, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022).
However, with this, he also gained so many detractors. While people accused him of being rude, others are not convinced about what kind of characters he played in his movies.
Now, after the immense success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, detractors have gained one more reason to hate him and as a result of it, they tagged him as “a replacement star.”
It all happened because he replaced Akshay Kumar in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa movie and now he is going to again replace him in the remake of Akshay Kumar-classic film, Hera Pheri 3.
As a result of this, Akshay Kumar fans are now furious over this replacement
Have a look at some of the responses:

Nonetheless, Kartik Aaryan has a perfect reply for them. So, let’s find out what did he have to say about this:
What did Kartik Aaryan have to say about the allegations of being a ‘replacement star’

He recently spoke with Siddharth Kannan, informing the Shehzada of Bollywood about a joke suggesting that he may potentially take Tom Cruise’s position in Mission: Impossible. The actor laughed loudly as he addressed the meme, claiming that many other individuals had also emailed him the same joke. He said,
“I used to fear being ignored because I’ve always been ignored. For the longest time and for years. But now is the time I feel it’s tough to ignore me. I’m happy. That fear doesn’t come anymore.”
The actor is now anticipating the debut of his upcoming movie, Freddy, which will be available on online streaming services. The trailer and the film’s songs have already drawn viewers in, and they can’t wait for December 2, 2022.
