People celebrate the festival of colors, Holi every year with friends and family. Besides splashing colors on each other the festivals also mark the occasion of having several authentic dishes and drinks that are specifically consumed during this fun festival. A recent incident grabbed the attention of the Delhi Police. And they spared no time in issuing advisories and raising awareness on social media in their own way.
On Tuesday, the food aggregator Zomato took to Twitter and tweeted that a consumer from Gurugram has been enquiring about the availability of bhang. Bhang is an intoxicating substance sourced from the cannabis plant.
It is a preparation made from the leaves and buds of the cannabis plant. It is traditionally consumed during the occasion of Holi. In some parts of India, Bhang is often considered to be an essential part of Holi celebrations. People consume bhang to have fun as it is believed to enhance the joy associated with the festival.
It can be consumed in various forms, such as bhang lassi (a drink made with curd/yogurt and bhang), bhang thandai (a cold drink made with milk, nuts, and bhang), or bhang pakoras.
This got a lot of reactions from Twitter users, but one response that went viral was that of the Delhi Police.
The Delhi Police came up with a quirky and apt reply to raise awareness
In reply to Zomato’s tweet, the department indirectly advised a person who has consumed bhaang or cannabis not to drive under its effect. The Delhi Police wrote,
“If anyone meets Shubham…. tell him not to drive if he consumes Bhaang”

Meanwhile, the Delhi police department announced that they have made intricate arrangements to check driving under the influence of liquor and other traffic rule violations on Holi.
More than 800 traffic police personnel, 150 company security personnel other than police, and 9,000 local police will be deployed in the city. As many as 1,300 motorcycles patrolling teams are to be deployed across the national capital. The Delhi Police further added 759 traffic officers will be deployed at 283 strategic locations.
