With its speedy service and delivery, online shopping has been demonstrated to be a godsend to the public. Nevertheless, despite all of the positive aspects on exhibit, online shopping can be a distressing and traumatic experience for few individuals. There have been several disgruntled shoppers who have had similar experiences. There have also been cases where the consumer has been duped by an online shopping portal and received a product that is not the same as the one requested.
Here are five examples of how these internet shopping sites have deceived customers:
1. Man places an order for a cellphone, gets brick instead
A man in Maharashtra suffered the same fate as the one described above. On October 9, Gajanan Kharat filed a police report, claiming that he had bought a budget cellphone and was required to pay the amount of RS 9134. The package arrived on time, but he was shocked to discover a brick in the box rather than the phone he had expected. One of the reasons, recording ‘unboxing’ video is so important.
2. Man orders iPhone 11, receives an android with a camera sticker
Rajni Rant Kushwaha, a Bangalore-based engineer visited Flipkart to place his order for the phone. The phone finally arrived after what seemed like a lifetime of waiting. But when he opened the phone, he was shocked to discover that it was apparently an Android phone with an iPhone camera cover.
Kushwaha spent roughly Rs 94000 for the smartphone, therefore it goes without saying that he reported it to the police. He also mentioned that the phone came with Android apps pre-installed, hinting that it was a refurbished device. Under mounting scrutiny, Flipkart agreed to provide him with a new phone.
3. Women received diyas and laddoos instead of speaker
In yet another case of internet shopping fraud, a woman who purchased a JBL Flip4 loudspeaker from Amazon for 7,000, received a diya and laddoo. She then took to Twitter to express her dissatisfaction, with Amazon later informing her that they are investigating the situation.
Sorry for the unpleasant experience with your recent order. Certainly not the kind of experience we intend to cater. We’d like to have this checked for you. Kindly report this to our support team here: https://t.co/pHUZdHEMpH and we’ll assist you accordingly. ^PV
A man ordered football socks from Myntra. Imagine his amazement when he received a 34CC Triumph bra. When asked for a substitution, Myntra astonishingly responded that they would not be restoring the merchandise because it had passed all of the mandatory tests prior to delivery.
The man resorted to Twitter to vent his frustrations in a humorous manner. He tweeted, “Ordered football stockings. Received a triumph bra. @myntra ‘s response? “Sorry, can’t replace it”. So I’m going to be wearing a 34 CC bra to football games, fellas. Ima call it my sports bra”. Myntra later acknowledged that they will investigate the situation as soon as possible.
