19 Facts About Bollywood Movies Which Which Will Surprise You

Bollywood gifted us with a lot of outstanding films, some of which made us fall in love at times when we thought we will never fall for someone again, and some films turned out to be our comfort films. But the amount of time, dedication, and thought procedure that goes into making a film is something not all of us know much about.
These are a few unknown and fun facts about Bollywood, which you probably didn’t know about:
1. Aamir Khan refused Om Shanti Om
Almost all the Bollywood stars were present during the multistarrer song, Deewangi of Om Shanti Om. But Aamir Khan wasn’t, it’s because he refused to be a part of the star cast song. There were reports which said, Shakira was about to be part of the song as well, but that did work out the way it was planned.
2. ZNMD contributed to Spain’s tourism business
You’d be lying if you claimed that you did not want to plan out a trip to Spain after watching this film, some of you all may have even executed the plan out, whereas some haven’t.
But because of the film, Spain’s tourism business had a hike of 65%, and also the Tomatina Festival which was shown in the film was not during the actual festive season, it was off-season and to shoot that 16 tonnes of tomatoes were flown in from Portugal to Spain. Good investment, good for skin, and who’d not love to celebrate the best festival twice in a year anyway?
3. Devdas’s lead role was offered to Salman Khan
Did you know the lead role was first offered to Salman Khan? One of the most notable songs from the film (though all of them are popular) Dola re dola took a week to complete because Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted it to be perfect. And well, we agree the song was perfect in all senses.
4. Shooting Lagaan’s climax in front of 10,000 people
The film was shot in a remote rural area since the location was very important to get the feels of it. The climax of the film was shot in front of 10k people, and Aamir who was the lead actor in the film screened it for the villagers first.
5. Kareena wore 130 different outfits for the movie Heroine
Kareena Kapoor is iconic, no doubt about it. In one of her films, Heroine, where she was showcased as a fashion icon, her character Mahi had to wear expensive outfits. And for the film, she wore a total of 130 super expensive outfits collected from all around the world.
6. Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon has a record of being the longest song
In the movie, there is a song by the name, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon, which is the lengthiest Hindi film song. The composition is 20 minutes long and is divided into three parts in the film.
7. Masaan and its struggle with selecting the title
Masaan is without a question one of Bollywood’s best films. Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkumar Rao were contracted to star in the film. The movie was titled several times, including “Taap,” “Raand, Saand, Seedhi, Sanyaasi,” “Duhera,” “Ud jaayega,” and lastly “Masaan.”
Saala yeh dukh kahe khatam nahi, Vicky Kaushal improvised its most significant dialogue. He persisted in drinking booze & enacted the full performance just to bring a touch of reality to the film.
8. Rang De Basanti was named ‘The Young Guns of India’
This film never grows stale; it has the best story and the best actors. However, deciding on a title for the film was difficult, as it went from ‘Ahuti’ to ‘The Young Guns of India’ and was eventually finalized as Rang De Basanti. We’re pleased they chose Rang De Basanti as the name. Not to forget the incredible music; A.R.Rahman took three years to finish the soundtrack for this film.
9. Dil Chahta Hai’s original cast – Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Akshaye Khanna
The film was a box office success. However, here’s a random fun fact that you may be unaware of. Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Akshaye Khanna were the initial selection for the cast of the film. In addition, the soundtrack to the film was flawless.
Shankar Mahadevan confessed that he composed the popular music of the song, Dil Chahta Hai while brushing his teeth. Perks of being super talented, I can’t even come up with what I wanna eat for breakfast while brushing.
10. DDLJ’s Raj Malhotra without Shah Rukh Khan?
DDLJ is regarded as Bollywood’s most iconic romantic movie. You will be shocked to know that Shah Rukh Khan was not the first choice for the role of Raj Malhotra. It was also offered to Saif Ali Khan and Tom Cruise. It’s hard to think that the romantic king wasn’t the first option.
In a short span of three to four weeks, Aditya Chopra completed writing the film. Thank god the others rejected, otherwise seeing anyone other than SRK in that dreamy character would have taken a toll on any hopeless romantic’s (like me) mental health.
11. Queen – Kangana wrote dialogues to improvise
The film was a success, and it went on to win numerous awards. Kangana Ranaut also worked as a dialogue writer for the movie in addition to playing the lead role in it. She did it in order to make it more genuine, which also provided the film with more realism.
The added dialogues were also credited to her. Despite the fact that the film was shot in another country, Vikas Bahl’s budget was so low that he couldn’t even cover the charge of Kangana’s vanity van.
12. Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai worked as a cupid for Hrithik
It was a box office smash with Hrithik’s debut in the movie. Following the premiere of the film, Hrithik Roshan received 30,000 marriage proposals. Maybe you were one too, it’s okay if you don’t wanna admit it cause that’s embarrassing. But do you recall the movie’s traffic signal scene? That’s how Hrithik met Sussanne Khan, his ex-wife, in real life.
13. Mughal-e-Azam is the most expensive Bollywood film
Mughal-e-Azam was Bollywood’s most pricey film due to its outstanding portrayal of love. Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya was penned 105 times before being approved, and it cost a whopping ten million dollars to produce the song. Though it’s old news now, it was really expensive considering the fact that back in those days, 10 million for a song was way too expensive.
14. Rockstar was shot in reverse & Nargis wasn’t aware of Imtiaz Ali or Ranbir Kapoor
Despite Ranbir being a phenomenal actor and his impressive acting in Rockstar, he was not Imtiaz Ali’s first pick. Nargis Fakhri, an American supermodel, was unable to communicate in Hindi.
She had never heard of Imtiaz Ali or Ranbir Kapoor. Because they didn’t want to compromise with Ranbir’s haircut, the movie was shot in reverse, which means the finale was shot first.
15. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is based on Archies comics
When Karan Johar was the associate director in DDLJ, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol promised him this excellent movie. It was Karan Johar’s first film as a filmmaker. Rani was 19 at the time of filming. The movie was based on the well-known Archies comic books. Tina’s death sequence in the film was added at Kajol’s suggestion.
16. The pregnancy scene from 3 Idiots was initially planned for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
There were many plot twists in the film about the education system. At first, Shah Rukh Khan was offered the role of Rancho. The pregnancy scene from the film was planned for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. but apparently, we saw the scene acted out by Rancho in 3 Idiots.
17. Anurag Kashyap misplaced Gangs Of Wasseypur’s script
This film is regarded as a classic in the crime genre. However, did you know the film’s associate director was Vicky Kaushal? The film’s script, as well as Anurag Kashyap’s bags, were misplaced. Surya Dev Singh and Shafiq Khan have a real-life feud, which is shown in the film and Sardar Khan’s residence was where Anurag spent his childhood.
18. Irrfan dropped a Hollywood offer for Piku
The term Piku is influenced by Satyajit Ray’s short movie Pikoo’s Diary. Irrfan Khan turned down a Hollywood project to star in Piku. Deepika Padukone is said to be the second tallest actor with whom Big B has collaborated, after Tabu.
19. Raftaar was Hera Pheri’s potential title
Even now, many of us are fans of Bollywood’s raw humor. The movie was formerly titled Raftaar. It’s also a popular remake of Ramji Rao Speaking, a south Indian film. Thank god, they bunked the first title as Hera Pheri seems more apt.
