6. Simi Garewal’s big break in the movie industry
She got her first break in the year 1962 with the adventure film Tarzan Goes to India, where she starred opposite none other than Feroz Khan. Her good command of English induced the makers of the English-language film Tarzan Goes to India to offer her a role. The movie was directed by John Guillermin who was the director of Death on the Nile (1987).
Simi Garewal has always been seen rocking white attires, let it be a simple all-white pantsuit or a white chiffon saree. You would see her pairing clothes with a pearl necklace. She married her long-time boyfriend Ravi Mohan who is a businessman from the aristocratic family of Chunnamals of Delhi. Her marriage only lasted for 18 months, mainly because it was a long-distance marriage. Initially, the couple started living apart but got divorced only after a decade.

Simi’s bold avatar in the film was quite rare in those days. The role she played got her a lot of attention but the Censor Board of India released the film with cuts.
Although she didn’t have children of her own, she once wanted to adopt a girl, Vijaya, from an orphanage. As per the adoption laws she was asked to publish Vijaya’s photo in the newspaper. If within a span of 3 months no one claimed the child, she could get her. Everything went well for around 2 months, but just before she could get her custody, the girl’s parents showed up.
