We all have our favourite celebrity whom we admire. They live a luxurious life and has access to various exclusive places and venues. But do you know despite their stardom some of these big names has been ceased to perform or allowed to enter other countries because of their past behaviour?
Every country has its own rules, regulations, beliefs, customs and traditions. Government and authorities are very serious when it comes to the matter of allowing access to their country.
So, here is why these celebs are banned from other countries!
1. Beyoncé was unable to present a show in Malaysia
Beyoncé is an exceptionally talented woman but back in 2007, she faced protest over her clothes and performance. According to the BBC,
“Female performers at Malaysian concerts are required by government rules to cover up from shoulders to knees, with no cleavage showing.”
She decided to cancel the show altogether instead of makings changes in her outfit.
In 2009, Miley Cyrus posted a photo of herself with what appeared to be slanting eyes which quite offended the mass. Shortly after that, the Chinese foreign minister said
“Miss Cyrus has made it clear she is no friend of China or anyone of East Asian descent. We have no interest in further polluting our children’s minds with her American ignorance.”
In 2015, Katy Perry wore a bright yellow sunflower dress and even waved a Taiwanese flag during a show in Taipei, Taiwan which resulted in a ban from China in 2017. It is because sunflower is the same flower used by anti-China protestors and so her outfit was considered to be anti-national by China.
In 2015, Supreme Court cancelled a court order that had put on hold in Salam Khan’s five-year jail term in the 1998 poaching case and because of that, he wasn’t allowed to travel to Britain. The 55-year old was convicted in 2017 for killing endangered deer while shooting for a film in Rajasthan in 1998.
We all know that Justin Bieber did some things which got people rolling their eyes and one of them gets him banned from Argentina. In 2013, the singer was accused of disrespecting the country’s flag and in 2016 he told his fans that he would no longer be able to perform in Argentina. According to reports, he was also banned from Disneyland for a bit.
The singer, actor, producer and activist supported gay rights and gave some political opinions which resulted in her ban from the country back in 2013. The picture she took with Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama angered the officials in China and she was also banned from China. Selena Gomez is not the only one, many big personalities like Maroon 5, Harrison Ford and Lady Gaga were banned from China.
In 2010, Paris Hilton was pleaded guilty to misconduct drug charges in Las Vegas and a month before she was arrested for drug possession. She was denied entry at Tokyo’s airport following her drug violation. Her publicist said
“Paris is very disappointed and fought hard to keep her business commitments and see her fans, but she is forced to postpone her commitments in Asia. Paris understands and respects the rules and laws of the immigration authorities in Japan and fully wishes to cooperate with them.”
The US pop star, Kesha has been banned to perform in a concert in Malaysia as the authorities believe that she would hurt cultural and religious sentiments. After that, she tweeted –
“To be clear. I did NOT cancel. I was not allowed to play. And then I was going to play anyways and was threatened with imprisonment.”
9. Gigi Hadid has faced an indefinite ban from China
In 2017, Gigi Hadid was unable to attend Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai because her visa was denied. It was accepted that she has been banned from China because of the video that came out showing her narrowing her eyes and imitates the Buddha shape of a cookie which has angered folks in china including the government.

Apart from Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid, the American actor Brad Pit also faced a ban from China for over 20 years until 2016. It is all because of a role he played in his movie, Seven Years in Tibet as a mountain climber, Heinrich Harrer who make friends with the Dalai Lama during the period of China’s takeover of Tibet.
